February 4 is the 35th day of the year in the Gregorian calendar, The Gregorian calendar, also called the Western calendar and the Christian calendar, is internationally the most widely
used civil calendar. It has been the unofficial global standard for decades, recognised by international institutions such as the United Nations and the Universal Postal Union. There are 330 days remaining until the end of the year(331 in leap years).

211 - Roman Emperor Septimius Severus dies, leaving the Roman Empire in the hands of his two quarrelsome sons, Caracalla and Geta.

1699 - 350 rebellious Streltsi executed in Moscow

1703 - In Edo (now Tokyo), 46 of the Forty-Seven Ronin commit seppuku (ritual suicide) as recompense for avenging their master's death.

1789 – George Washington is unanimously elected as the first President of the United States by the U.S. Electoral College.

1782 - British garrison surrenders to French & Spanish fleet

1859 - The Codex Sinaiticus is discovered in Egypt.
Also know as the "Sinai Bible" is one of the four great uncial codices, an ancient, handwritten copy of the Greek Bible. The codex is a celebrated historical treasure. Since its discovery, study of the Codex Sinaiticus has proven to be extremely useful to scholars for critical studies of biblical text.

Originally, the Codex contained the whole of both Testaments. Approximately half of the Greek Old Testament (or Septuagint) survived, along with a complete New Testament, plus the Epistle of Barnabas, and portions of The Shepherd of Hermas.

2004 – Facebook, a mainstream online social networking site, is founded by Mark Zuckerberg.

2006 – A stampede occurs in the ULTRA Stadium near Manila killing 71.
